Ego Ramble: So… about Kerry Washington’s SNL Appearance…..

We’re back!

I know it’s been a long time since we’ve posted, but now that all of the crazy in (at least my) life has calmed down a bit, I finally have the nerve and energy to start blogging again!

So, about Saturday Night Live this past weekend…

Kerry Washington (aka Olivia Pope from Scandal, and veritable queen of our lives) hosted SNL this past weekend. From a purely objective standpoint, it was a decent show with some genuinely funny moments (the “Fox” spoof wins top marks by far) and some not-so-funny moments. Pretty much the case with all SNL episodes.

However, I couldn’t help but notice how SNL pretty much used the opportunity of Kerry Washington being there to tell every possible black girl joke that exists, and by the third skit, I was kind of annoyed.

I will say that I missed the cold open, so I didn’t see the “disclaimer”, which was really funny, but I think the point still stands. My thing is, even if SNL was making fun of themselves for their lack of black women on the show, that doesn’t mean they couldn’t have Kerry play anybody else besides the hoodrat, the angry black woman, the black intellectual, Oprah, Michelle Obama, and etc. What makes KW and her smash hit show Scandal so special is that race, while an important factor, doesn’t drive the show, it just exists as a fact of life.

To me, SNL pretty much relegated Kerry Washington to the opposite side of that spectrum, which was pretty annoying with it being hammered in with every sketch (except for that god awful cartoon game show skit).

Congrats to Kerry for a doing a great job with so-so material. SNL, I think it’s time you start expanding your recruiting efforts a bit.

Henry Cavill and Kerry Washington are Everything, and Here’s Why

Like seriously? Can you imagine their children? Ugh

There are currently two people on planet Earth who we at EgoRich live and breathe for. These two people are so damn perfect, so talented, so insanely good-looking, so effortless in whatever they do, that it is actually a biological anomaly that they exist in real life. Plus, they play two of the most amazing people in pop culture at the moment.

Of course, we are talking about Henry Cavill and Kerry Washington.

While the concept of these two people literally being everything should be easy to conceive of, we decided that it would be best if we just offered our own thoughts (aka we are just going to praise them until our fingertips bleed).

By the way, we are currently developing a film idea which we can sell for millions featuring these two. We are aware that putting these two titans on screen might cause the world to implode, but we are willing to take that chance.

Ego Ramble: Dear ABC and Shonda Rhimes, We Need To Talk About This October 3rd Season Premiere Date For Scandal

We are as pressed as an Olivia Pope suit…

Dear ABC and Shonda Rhimes,

We (as in P and B), would like to congratulate you on developing a show that has captured the hearts and imaginations of people the world over, introducing the world to Kerry Washington, getting her an Emmy nomination, and just delivering a show that makes us drop to the floor gasping for breath when David was the one who stole the Defiance thing from Pope & Associates and gave it to Billy Chambers (true story).

All that said, we need to talk. Now.

This past week, you guys announced the season premiere date for Scandal, quite haphazardly, might I add. Maybe you figured that if you made a big deal about it, especially considering when the date was, you might inspire riots (or at least verbal lashings via Twitter). So you quietly announced it via Facebook.

October 3rd.

Clearly your Facebook updater cannot spell, because I am sure that is supposed to say “September.”

But let’s assume you meant that date to be October 3rd…

Excuse me?

Are you meaning to tell me that all of us gladiators have to wait until OCTOBER for us to finally figure out one-fifth of the story about Olivia and her dad? OCTOBER until we see how Huck will get out of his 752 daze (see what I did there)? OCTOBER to find out how long Jake will really be in that damn hole? OCTOBER until we see if Harrison actually gets a storyline? October, we have to sit through all of these wack premieres of shows that haven’t been created by Shonda, meaning they won’t be as good and will be canceled by the end of November, and just deal without our gladiators?

Ok, I’m calm. P?

Listen Shonda, I’ve been on your team since the pilot episode of Grey’s. I’m a loyal servant to your majesty television screen writer madame. But your decision to have my favorite show in life come back in OCTOBER is unfounded and absolutely unacceptable.

I am addicted to the show. So if you make me wait until OCTOBER I will go into anaphalyctic shock from withdrawal in which case I may not even make it to October 3 when you oh so casually decide to debut Season 3. There are only so many episodes for me to rewatch before it’s not enough to keep my habit going.

I feel empty. Like I am grieving. Please take these thoughts under consideration as you rethink that Season 3 debut date. I will appreciate it!

Sincerely yours,
